So here's how it came out:

The caramel sauce never quite went the right color ("a dark amber") and the whiskey did not in fact erupt in a giant ball of flame (not that I minded THAT), but the taste?? Yea verily, thou shalt pass out from sheer chocolate ecstasy. Now go watch this and say it with me: "Ah luuuuuuuv de cake!"

That looks perfectly gorgeous. Would you be willing to share the recipe? I've never really ventured into cake making and would like to try it.

Absolutely! It's right here. It was one of ten chosen by Huffington Post in their piece on National Chocolate Cake Day, a day which I can't believe I was previously unaware of, and which I plan to celebrate with great gusto from now on :D

Edit: Note small copy/paste error in their recipe, which caused me a little confusion: "...swirling skillet occasionally so sugar melts evenly, until it is a dark amber. Add whiskey and carefully cook, swirling skillet occasionally so sugar melts evenly, until it is a dark amber. Add whiskey and carefully ignite with a kitchen match..."
