Big Smart Bang Chick

I'm not sure I've ranted about my love for The Big Bang Theory in this venue, so let me take a moment to say how very cool I think this show is and how much I love it. (In so very many ways, I am Dr. Sheldon Cooper.) That none of the jokes are bathroom humor (the occasional mention of Leonard's lactose intolerance aside) would alone elevate it above 90% of the sitcoms out there. Add to that the fact that the science is accurate, that it makes geeks look fun and cool, that (yes!) there are smart science-y CHICKS on it, and that the discussion topics and jokes (Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Battlestar Galactica, arcade games, etc.) are terrifyingly similar to those that I and my nerd friends have always loved, and you have a recipe for fabulous that has rarely been equaled. And the minute the local pub dumps trivia night for counter-factual night, I am SO there.

But today I found out something that elevates it to the truly amazing. Mayim Bialik, she of Blossom, who plays Dr. Sheldon Cooper's girl-slash-friend Amy Farrah Fowler, actually really truly in real life has a PhD in neuroscience.

Wow.

How freaking cool is that???

I LOVE Big Bang Theory! Sheldon it the best, the very, very best. It's one of those shows you can watch over and over and it's still funny every time!

For some reason I was a late adopter, only discovering it about four months ago. I have since binged on it every chance I get: two, three, four, five episodes a night and loving every second of it :D

I'd heard that - isn't it cool? Favorite Amy Farrah Fowler quote is the one where she says something about being willing to belive in the concept of God, but doesn't understand why he'd concern himself with taking attendance. :D

LOL! Yes, that's a good one. I like her answer when Penny asks how her life is: "Just like everyone else's. Subject to entropy, decay, and eventual death. Thank you for asking." And I would pay real money to hear Scott Joplin play the "Maple Leaf Rag" on tuned bayonets!!

I usually avoid sitcoms so I, too, was late coming into it. About two years ago I was flipping channels and started watching about ten minutes into an episode and was hooked. I watch them in repeats, I watch them live, I have about fifty eps on my computer. If the four guys were girls, we would have been those girls in high school (at least where the geeky/fandom stuff was involved). *g*

I'm still dying over the basketball competition last night.

Hahahahaaaa! Yes, last night was a riot. I hated gym and PE and every other incarnation of remotely sports-related crap at school, so I both laughed till I cried and totally sympathized at the same time.

Isn't it, though? It's like Brian May, the guitarist from Queen who got his PhD in astrophysics. Of course it also makes me feel like a total slacker, since they manage to be stunningly successful entertainers AS WELL AS getting the PhD, while I only have a pathetic MS and no entertainment value whatsoever (at least not that anyone would pay to see LOL!). But hey, we can't all be overachievers ;)
