Pimpage and other interesting things
Two days remaining to leave prompts for
mini_fest!!
Five days remaining to sign up for
sshg_giftfest, still spots left for both writers and crafters!!
Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, you know you want to :)
In other interesting news, it turns out that anemones sting you via tiny little hypodermic needles at the ends of their tentacles, if you don't know what to call your academic event there is a flowchart to help you, there is such a thing as color photos from World War I (using potato starch, who knew??), and despite what the ads may tell you, you cannot get an airline flight for 50p:

Snape and the Marauders fan project
You may have seen the amazing fan-made Harry Potter movie, "For the Greater Good," which brings to life the break between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and the death of Ariana. (If you haven't seen it, go watch, it's amazing!)
The same folks now want to do a full-length fan film that explores the relationship between Snape and the Marauders, and they've kicked off an Indiegogo campaign to fund it. (Thanks to
laralee88 for her post that let me know about it!) I REALLY hope this gets fully funded -- it looks really impressive, from the casting to the planned budget to the special effects. So spread the word :)

Hush, hush, sweet fandom
There are some excellent prompts over at the prompting post for
hp_silencio. Some would be quite challenging to do without dialog. I shall have to go through some of my Anita Brookner books for tips; she's so good at that.
Also this!!

Silence is golden
Prompting is open at
hp_silencio, where the challenge is to write a dialog-free fic. Very intriguing. I tend to rely heavily on dialog (probably too heavily), so I'm thinking of signing up to challenge myself.

My meta HP paper
Ever wonder why the Ministry of Magic chose a train as the method of travel for getting to Hogwarts, or why even students from Scotland have to go all the way to London to board? Wonder no more! My paper for the
hp_canon_love Meta Fest has posted :)

Thank you, John W. Campbell. Also, publish your novel!
The World Science Fiction Conventio, aka WorldCon, (which I swear I will get to someday, like maybe next year since it's in Spokane) is where the Hugo Awards are given out. If you read much F/SF at all you've probably heard of the Hugos -- they're basically the equivalent of the Academy Awards for science fiction and fantasy. There are Hugos for Best Novel, Best Novelette, Best Professional Editor, etc. (Fic writers note: there are also Hugos for Best Fan Artist, Fan Writer, and Fancast!!).
WorldCon is also where the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer is bestowed. And now, you can read over a hundred stories eligible for the Campbell Award FOR FREE. Some brilliant person has compiled them all into The 2014 Campbellian Anthology.
I am soooooo excited!!
"A little over a year ago, a small group of us had a crazy idea. What if, we said, there was a way everyone eligible for the Campbell could publicize their work at the same time, so that readers might have some idea of who we are?...The volume you now hold in your hands...includes a multitude of works from 111 contributors, spanning more than 860,000 words..."

On a semi-related note, if any of you have a novel sitting around gathering dust (*koff*
anna_bird*koff*), there's a new publisher in town and they're looking for submissions: Story Spring Publishing, click on "Submissions." Go ye and submit!

Yes, I know that ALL the contributions will be brilliant (because hello, sshg), but I'm tickled pink that one of my prompts sparked an idea for someone :)
And there are still lots more, especially for artists -- Go ye and claim!
