So I'm sure everyone is aware of the kerfuffle over the NSA logging phone numbers, call durations, email, chat, etc., yes?  Today I went to view a document I needed to review that was posted on Google Docs, and I see this:

Has anyone else ever seen this message?  I've been looking at/working with files on Google Docs for the last 18 months or so due to a couple of international committees I'm on, and I don't recall ever seeing this before. Coincidence?  I THINK NOT... (cue ominous music)

In other news, our kitchen remodel is done -- new countertops! new cabinets!! freshly polished/finished floors!!! -- so I can start cooking again, and we can have proper popcorn instead of Boom Chicka Pop out of a bag (it's very tasty, but it doesn't beat the hot fresh popped item).  So yay for all that.  Also we get to go behind-the-scenes with wolves on Thursday at the zoo (v. cool).  Ooh, and the first trailer for the next installation of The Hobbit is out, complete with Mirkwood, a red-haired elf, and SMAUG'S HEAD! Yesssss...  I'm selfishly pleased that it's coming out in December, as that will distract me from my annual Christmas "Why are there no more Harry Potter movies?" mopage/whinage.  We likes it, precious, yes we do :)

I suspect this is something that Google added for non-Gmail users (who have already agreed to their TOS) to serve as placeholder if they're not able to browbeat the government into letting them disclose the FISA requests they've received as a means of restoring consumer confidence. Yeah, good luck with that.

AND WOLVES!!! We have a pair of Arctic wolf brothers who are animal ambassadors at the zoo, and ONE DAY I WILL PET THEM. Until then, I shall just have to howl :D Let me know how that goes!!

The editorial in yesterday's local rag was about how we have no privacy anymore. Of course they blamed Obama more than Bush Jr. who started it all, but Obama really hasn't curtailed this kind of thing at all.

I guess it's good they let us know they're snooping, but...

It's not O or B's fault in this case. It is a long term project complicit with congress and all three branches of govt.

This is really nothing new other than its much more expanded and moving into IP versus TDM technology.

Watch the PBS documentary called Spy Factory. It is on netflix. It is worth a watch. The kerfuffle with the NSA isn't exactly new news, nor is related to the patriot act since call surveillance was pre 9/11. It has been going on a very long time. Monitoring got escalated in the 1990s with fiber optics and O/E conversion. Yeah, I work in telecommunications...this hasn't been a secret for years...

The kitchen is SO beautiful! Every time I walk out there I go into a sort of happy trance :) I can't wait to see what we get to do with the wolves -- last time we did one of these we got to pet a penguin Somehow I doubt there will be wolf-petting, but perhaps we will be sniffed?

And it's looking like everybody knew, including all of Congress. Although some of them are claiming that the briefings were too brief and left them uninformed. Well, whose fault is that, you dopes?? Did you ask any questions????

I am amused, however, at how the far left and the far-right are meeting round the back to denounce this. Just goes to show that the world isn't the only thing that's round -- if you go far enough in one extreme you'll meet up with the crazies on the other end!
