* Saint Walpurga, whose nacht this is, was hailed by the Christians of Germany for battling "pest, rabies and whooping cough" which seems rather appropriate at this moment. Her thoughts on injecting disinfectant are, alas, unknown.

She (Walpurga) was also the sister of my personal patron Willibald. He and his brother, Winebald, were the first Englishmen (Anglo Saxons) to visit the Holy Land, and were both made missionary bishops in Germany by Pope Boniface. Walpurga followed her brothers to Germany where she set up a nunnery.
