Finished From the Dust Returned last night (I started it last week, before we went out of town, but didn't take it since I only had about 50pp left and would have finished it before we got out of the state). Overall: meh. As usual, his language is incredible -- more like poetry than a novel -- but the storyline was muddled, a little incoherent. Found out in the epilogue that the stories were written (and in some cases published) separately over more than thirty years, which explains a lot of the disconnected feeling. As a standalone short story, by far the best chapter was that about the nurse and the "Orient traveler," but my favorite character was Uncle Einar with the wings.
