Hahahahaha "excessive use of passive voice" is my sin. I can't get my thick skull to understand how to talk English without the excessive use of passive voice.
I feel like there should be an option for a little orange circle in the corner of these, like an "unread message" alert, to let you know when the offense is so over-the-top as to be a feature rather than a bug. I can definitely find myself in the mood for an unrelatable, overwritten Mary Sue who up and dies in the second act.
It's good for your ficcers to have a concern beta. My problem is that I don't have awareness of my use of passive voice. I run "Grammarly", my English grammar and plagiarism checker, and the program always "accuse" me of doing it. I just don't know how to turn a passive voice into an active one. I feel the more I use English the more careless I'm being with grammar. ...my last English class was at 1987! I need to go back to school. ;)
Head hopping is where the author changes POV at random, whenever they feel like it. Like in the middle of a scene which is 90% from Jane's POV, suddenly we slip into John's POV for a paragraph or two. Very distracting and hard to read. Not to be confused with third person omniscient, which is a legit POV where you are in everyone's head all the time.
I find myself wishing they came in sticker form. I would buy a hundred sheets of them and stick them all over stuff I read before selling it at the second-hand bookstore XD
Ah never used Amazon and only know of the site existing and when the news notes when it has to pull controversial stuff from it (there's a recent book by a prisoner named Pickton that's in the news here). I would say as a pro wrestling fan that first one about plot inconsistencies is badly needed weekly. Ditto the Sniff/Smile/Snarl promo warnings for guys who shout their entire scripted lines or smile smugly (see Ryback and Roman Reigns). Nice share!

Date: 2016-02-21 09:54 am (UTC)I used to have that problem. Now my poor ficcers I edit for have to deal with my self consciousness of it.
