So, just to be sure we're all clear on this: That was the MOLT I was posing with, NOT the actual spider. Please don't think me braver stupider than I actually am lol (For those of you want to look at it again, which may be none of you heheh, note how stiff the legs are and the clump of tissue filling the abdomen. Those are, er, "dead" giveaways!)

Also my apologies for not putting the picture behind a cut. I should have done, so as not to freak people out. There are things I just really do not want to see ever, and for some people, spiders are that. So sorry, guys!!

Here's the really funny part, though: when my brother and I were kids, he had snakes, rats and tarantulas. Our bedrooms were right next to each other, downstairs in a walkout basement. I had recurring nightmares that the spider had escaped and was sitting in my face. I swore that when *I* was a grownup, I would NEVER have those creepy things in my house no never not ever.

And now, here I am, *mumble* years later, with Mr Psmith, a room-full of tarantulas and snakes, and I'm letting him pose the damn thing's exoskeleton on my face.

Oh karma, you are a bitch, aren't you??

I'll be honest, I thought it was the spider, not the molt. And thank you for cutting it - I'm a frightful coward when it comes to spiders. Snakes as a rule don't really bother me, as long as I know they aren't poisonous, but spiders terrify me and always have. I honestly can't look at photos of them without hyperventilating, much less see them live. The tiniest one sends me running for the nearest thing to hit it with. I think you are awesomely brave for dealing with it so calmly. TheHubs™, coming from a country where there ARE no venomous spiders, always hated them but would just calmly place them under a glass and toss them out the door. I've made him so spooked of black widows and brown recluses here he's almost more frightened of them than I am nowadays! :)

Whew. I was hoping it was the molt, but I wasn't sure, because giant tarantulas are one of the things I don't look at too closely! /g/ But at least I do look. Giant cockroaches, now -- I can barely even make myself type the word.

That was definitely one of the most bizarre flist photos ever.

And yes, the irony of it all...perhaps your brother having those critters really did mean you were destined to meet and marry Mr.PSmith. Ahhhh, fate is sometimes a good thing...

*sings* Fate is kiiiind! She brings to those who love... the sweet fulfillment of... their secret longing!

*giggles wickedly*

But seriously, the tissue gave it away for me, though I had to look twice. It truly is a dramatic picture.

Ooo, what kind of snakes do you have?

Hee! I showed my partner (because, really, that had to be one of the most memorable images I've come across on the flist, ever), and she wasn't sure it was the molt. I said I was fairly sure that's what you meant, but we spent *far* too long looking it to be sure, and I dreamed about it that night (though luckily only in passing.). :) Thanks for a truly unique image! M.

I got that it was the shed, so while it was kind of creepy, it was also kind of fascinating and "no big deal" in an odd way.

All I can think of is the scene in Home Alone with the spider. THAT is freaky that a crowbar can't solve.
