Librarians (and archivists) do Gaga
8 June 2010 10:47 pmHaving thus far avoided knowing anything at all about Lady Gaga, other than that she looks like crackwhore!Barbie and apparently prefers singing in her underwear, I am nevertheless highly amused by this, from the students and faculty of the University of Washington's library school:

I hope to eventually see a music video done for THESE lyrics, since as we all know archivists are WAY cooler than plain old ordinary librarians, heh heh heh:
"You seek primary sources for historical research
But the library catalog has left you in the lurch
The archives contains all the information that you need
So come on down and we’ll give you a document to read
Oh, oh, oh, oh, ohhhh, ohh-oh-e-ohh-oh-oh
An archivist is hard to resist!
Oh, oh, oh, oh, ohhhh, ohh-oh-e-ohh-oh-oh
An archivist is hard to resist..."
Read the rest here. And giggle.

1) See Avatar. I saw it last night and it ROCKS. I had heard the special effects were amazing, the story ho-hum. I'm here to tell you the special effects are indeed amazing but the story is not at all ho-hum. I actually got choked up at not one, not two, but THREE separate scenes. Yes, if you boil it down far enough it does map superficially to Pocahontas, as I myself irresponsibly mentioned here. However, even the best sauce Meunière will turn to inedible sludge if you boil it down far enough. That does not mean one is wise to do so. There are enough significant differences (number one: the Indians win) that for me took it to quite another level.
2) Marvel at the beauty of Carl Sagan, Neil de Grasse Tyson, and cosmic science set to music. (If you like it there are more here.)
3) Giggle at the larval stages of the common American speculative fiction writer.
4) Donate to St. Baldrick's charity for childhood cancer research here.
5) Wallow in fangirly joy at the amazing Picard video. Anything that starts with Picard slamming a beer is only going to get better.
That's enough for today. Enjoy!!!

A long lacuna in posting, partly due to being very busy with regular day job, partly due to some freelance deadlines, and last but not least, partly due to some very intensive beta-ing of the latest chapter of Downloaded, an excellent and intriguing Star Trek/Battlestar Galactica crossover fic.
And oh joy!! This week IFC Channel is doing a six-day Monty Python-a-thon -- a new documentary with interviews, Life of Brian, Holy Grail, episodes from the series, etc etc etc. I'm in heaven. Because John Cleese doing his silly walk really is the funniest thing ever done by a human, and quite possibly by any non-human as well, not excepting any yet-to-be-discovered aliens.
