Backed up!

Yay, I have successfully backed up my LJ over on DW!! For the time being I'll be staying over on LJ, but will cross-post so as to keep them both up-to-date. Not that I think anything will happen, but what with LJ's servers moving to Russia and a few other things, I just feel better having things backed up. Plus, y'know, I am an archivist so I kinda feel like I'm obligated :) I'm the same person over there as I am here, so if any of you are also on DW, please feel free to friend my DW account.

I'm iffy on importing my LJ here especially with having 2 different usernames which I had hoped to keep separate though with creating a blog with the LJ username, and there being people who know me in the 'real world' info is creeping in that I had hoped to keep private. And some private (to me only) posts would also become public.

Yeah, I can understand that. I try to keep my fannish self separate from my real-life self, just because. Why would private posts become public? Doesn't DW have the same setting options that LJ does?

Don't know. It's just what I read on the checklist on the 2nd page of the import process. So I backed out. There was also a suggestion to change the password on the importing web site before and after doing the import.

I don't know that I'll bother. I can just copy and paste the html the way I do for my blog.

I think you're OK -- what it says is that it if you tick the "Journal entries" box then it imports all your entries, regardless of security setting. *But* ticking that box also automatically ticks the "Custom security groups" box, which imports your friend groups as Dreamwidth access filters. So it preserves access restrictions.

I only joined LJ to get access to journals where I could 'acquire' movies, tv shows, music etc without resorting to torrents. And now, the oldest LJ communities for that is shutting down in Feb. The demise of megaupload was the start of it all.

I started DW/LJ cross-posting several years ago, when I first opened my DW account. It worked like a charm until about two months ago. . .and then it stopped. I tried all my usual fixes, but nothing works. So now I just do double posts. It doesn't really take much longer.

I don't think we're in any actual danger on LJ, but I do worry that the whole shebang might just shut down. So I'm going to try to makes copies of as many fics and comments and fests as I can.

Have you made sure the crossposting box on the Create Entries page is ticked? If a crosspost fails for whatever reason, I think that box becomes unticked by default until you manually tick it again.

All my ticky-boxes are checked and double-checked -- no luck, unfortunately. I'll submit another help request to DW at some point.
